My Plate
Do you remember the Food Guide Pyramid? It was used when many of you were in school. But it was hard to read and follow, so a new guide was developed called MyPlate. The MyPlate illustration is a plate that is divided by portion size into foods you should eat, so we can visually “see” what we are eating.
IN-HOME ACTIVITY
MyPlate
- Print the MyPlate outline and illustration. (Print enough outlines for each family member to have one.)
- Have each family member divide the plate into sections and label each of the following: Fruits, Vegetables, Grain, Protein, and Dairy.
- Compare everyone’s plate to the illustration.
Don’t forget to journal!
What family-pleasing meals can you prepare next week that will meet the MyPlate recommendation? Compare this week’s activity to the goals you set last week and record your goals for the upcoming week in your online Activity and Food Journal or in the print Parent Guide and Journal.
